The Government is Deceiving the Public, Prime Minister Plenković did not Send a Letter to President Milanović
The Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia can only repeat the easily verifiable fact: President Zoran Milanović did not receive any proposal to convene the National Security Council from Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.
To claim otherwise, as the Government is doing on Twitter, is an old example of Yutel-style public deception, which occurred just when we thought that the practice of tweeting fabricated ‘alternative facts’ has left us with Trump. That is why the Government should publish, if it exists, that letter from Prime Minister Plenković to President Milanović. They have our permission. The Office of the President has thoroughly checked all the mail that arrived on Friday. We have received various letters, but the letter from the Prime Minister was not there. It would be useful for the Prime Minister’s Office to again check what is written in the law regarding the procedure for convening the National Security Council and who is responsible for it.
Since, as we have seen, complying with the law is not a strong point for the Government, we shall remind them once again: Under the Security and Intelligence System Act, the National Security Council is co-convened by the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister and they decide together which issues will be discussed. The Council’s Technical and administrative duties are carried out by the Office of the National Security Council.
