Sanja Musić Milanović Receives World Health Organization Award for her Efforts in Promoting Health
The wife of the President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović, Prof Dr Sanja Musić Milanović, participated as a special guest in the World Health Organization’s global event “Walk The Talk: Health for All Challenge held in Geneva.
“Walk The Talk” took place prior to the opening of the 75th World Health Assembly session aimed at the promotion of health. In the scope of the event, the Republic of Croatia presented in Geneva its National Health Promotion Programme Healthy Living, whose leader is Sanja Musić Milanović.
This year’s edition of “Walk The Talk” highlighted the theme of the importance of sports for health, and at the same announced a partnership between the World Health Organization, FIFA and Qatar in the organization of World Cup Qatar 2022 entitled “Healthy World Cup Qatar: Creating Legacy for Sport and Health”.
“Regular physical activity provides significant benefits for the health and well-being of everyone. This is why, through many years of the Healthy Living programme, in Croatia we have been promoting physical activity and encouraging everyone to find their own way of being active for at least 30 minutes a day. Personally, my favourite forms of physical activity are running and walking, Prof Dr Musić Milanović stated, noting that this event coincides with the Croatian campaign “Walking towards health”. She underlined that this is a great way for all public health experts, policymakers and other stakeholders to show that they practise what they preach. “I am very happy to walk together with thousands of people around the globe today to share the message of the importance of physical activity for health, and celebrate our common commitment to the goal of reducing physical inactivity worldwide,” Sanja Musić Milanović stated in her address to the gathering, and together with the Director-General of the World Health Organization Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus led the group of walkers.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus presented Mrs. Musić Milanović with the 2022 WHO Director-General Health Champion Award for her tireless efforts to advocate for the strengthening of health promotion programmes around the world.
