Sanja Musić Milanović and Her Majesty Letizia, The Queen of Spain, Discuss Innovative Approaches to Preventing Childhood Obesity

The wife of the President of the Republic of Croatia Prof. Sanja Musić Milanović, Ph. D., and Her Majesty Letizia, the Queen of Spain, discussed at a working meeting held today at the Office of the President innovative approaches to preventing childhood obesity. Her Majesty Letizia, the Queen of Spain, is on a visit to Zagreb as part of an official visit to the Republic of Croatia together with His Majesty Felipe VI, the King of Spain.

The scale of the childhood obesity issue – both in Croatia and Spain, and throughout Europe – was discussed at the working meeting. The importance of preventing obesity in children in order to preserve the health of the entire population was highlighted. Also, the importance of a comprehensive approach to obesity prevention through a multi-sectoral set of intervention measures aimed at all periods of life was emphasized. The wife of the President of the Republic of Croatia Prof. Sanja Musić Milanović, Ph. D., presented the expert and scientific activities she is implementing in the field in Croatia, as well as her work in the Advisory Council on Innovation for Noncommunicable Diseases of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Regional Director for Europe, and in the special Working Group for the Prevention of Obesity in Children.

The wife of the President of the Republic of Croatia also announced the launch of the upcoming inaugural summit of spouses of European leaders on the topic of childhood obesity prevention in Europe, which will be jointly organized with the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
