Sanja Musić Milanović and Emina Erdoğan, Wives of Croatian and Turkish Presidents Visit Matija Gubec International School

The wife of the President of the Republic of Croatia Prof. Sanja Musić Milanović, PhD, and the wife of the President of the Republic of Tŭrkiye Emine Erdoğan visited Matija Gubec International School in Zagreb today. Mrs. Erdogan is in Croatia in the scope of the Official visit of the President of the Republic of Tŭrkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the Republic of Croatia.

One of the activities in the scope of the programme of the Presidents’ wives was a visit to the school in the company of the principal Ljiljana Klinger, teachers and pupils. They attended a presentation of the school’s activity, which offers the International Baccalaureate programme. The tour included a visit to the school cafeteria where they had a brief presentation of the pupils’ menu that includes Halal food. The pupils demonstrated their skills in tying a tie, an identifying Croatian characteristic.

The wife of the Croatian President Sanja Musić Milanović presented the National Health Promotion Programme entitled “Healthy Living” whose coordinator she is. The Programme’s activities are aimed at promoting physical and mental health in various environments so as to prevent risk factors conducive to the development of leading chronic non-communicable diseases and preserving the health of the general population.

In Matija Gubec International School’s schoolyard, the wife of the President of the Republic of Tŭrkiye Emine Erdoğan was shown the Polygons for the physical activity of school children. The activity “Polygon for the physical activity of school children” is part of the “Healthy Living” National Programme. It was designed as an aid for implementing physical activity classes in elementary schools of the Republic of Croatia that lack the necessary material, technical and spatial conditions, with the goal of maintaining, advancing and promoting health and physical activity.

The project “Healthy Living” obtained non-refundable grants from the European Social Fund enabling Polygons for the physical activity of school children. In 2021 the grants were donated to 1,000 branch schools in the Republic of Croatia that have no gymnasium. The importance and innovativeness of the Polygons for the physical activity of school children has been recognized by the European Commission, which rewarded the Polygons as one of the 16 best models of good practice in the field of health, education and sports related to the implementation of Goal 3 Health – Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, which is one of the United Nations’ 17 Global Sustainable Development Goals.

Accompanying the wife of the President of the Republic of Croatia Prof. Sanja Musić Milanović, PhD, was Jadranka Žarković, Adviser to the President of the Republic for Education, and accompanying the wife of the President of the Republic of Tŭrkiye Emine Erdoğan was Emel Hizlam, wife of the Ambassador of the Republic of Tŭrkiye to the Republic of Croatia.
