President of the Republic Receives Delegation of the Croatian Freelance Artists Association
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received a delegation from the Croatian Freelance Artists Association, which included writer Hrvoje Kovačević, dramatic artist Marko Torjanac, translation Tatjana Tarbuk and artist Mejra Mujičić.
The members of the delegation informed the President of the Republic of the unenviable situation of freelance artists in Croatia due to the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic since the Government’s first package of financial measures did not include them. In their view, freelance artists were left out and were only subsequently allowed to utilize the support measures, yet only a small number of them, while the majority of freelance artists have yet to be included in the support package. We expect unity and solidarity with freelance artists in order to help them overcome this crisis, because if nothing is done now to assure the survival of independent culture, Croatia will be left without freelance artists, is the message conveyed on behalf of the Croatian Freelance Artists Association.
Furthermore, they expressed their dissatisfaction with the proposed legislation concerning artistic activities, which is in the process of being passed, and according to which, as they say, the Croatian Freelance Artists Association should lose its key powers.
