President Milanović Supports Sports and Humanitarian Activities of Association of Disabled Homeland War Veterans and Volunteers “Hrvatski dragovoljac”

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met with the leadership of the Association of Disabled Homeland War Veterans and Volunteers “Hrvatski dragovoljac”. The delegation included Association president Ivica Lenard and Association secretary Igor Toman.

The Association was founded by disabled war veterans in 2014, and currently has about fifty members that are mostly recreational athletes. They mark special anniversaries of the Homeland War through various memorial races and cycling events. President Milanović was also acquainted with their activities related to community service and charity work, and was told that their members frequently organize fundraising events, especially for children.

In addition to the “Hrvatski dragovoljac” Association, its president Ivica Lenard and secretary Igor Toman have also launched a number of civil initiatives to raise funds for the purchase and donation of medical equipment for the treatment of children in the Pediatrics Clinic in the Clinical Medical Center Osijek (KBC Osijek). With every cycling event their efforts are of a charitable nature, and they have travelled Croatia by bike from Ilok to Dubrovnik several times for various associations or institutions that care for children.

Furthermore, they informed President Milanović of their plans to cycle from Osijek to London for the England—Croatia football game. This charity cycling event will raise funds for the children of the Vukovarski leptirići Association (Vukovar butterflies).

President Milanović supported their sports and humanitarian activities and congratulated them on their past and present accomplishments. Attending the meeting with President Milanović was the Commissioner of the President for Sports Željko Jovanović.
