President Milanović Speaks with Representatives of the Croatian Sports Medicine Society of the Croatian Medical Association
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović spoke today with the President and First Vice President of the Croatian Sports Medicine Society of the Croatian Medical Association, Prof. Davor Plavec, Ph.D., and Associate Prof. Vladimir Ivančev, Ph.D., about preventive health care for athletes.
Athletes are Croatia’s best ambassadors to the world, and their achievements continuously contribute to the country’s global recognition. However, on the road to success, they face enormous physical demands, it was noted at the meeting. Given these efforts, frequent accidents, injuries, and even tragedies that occur on sports fields, the representatives of the Croatian Sports Medicine Society emphasized to President Milanović the need for adequate preventive health care as one of the key and financially accessible forms of care for athletes.
The preventive health care of athletes in Croatia has not received sufficient attention so far, according to the Croatian Sports Medicine Society. In this context, they informed President Milanović that the text of the Ordinance on Health Examinations for Athletes has been drafted but has not yet been adopted. They explained that it covers all aspects of modern approaches related to preventive examinations of athletes, as well as first aid on the sports fields, which has not been adequately addressed until now. Furthermore, the Ordinance would standardize medical practice across all regions of Croatia, and by maintaining precisely prescribed documentation, it would allow for inspection and planning, they added.
President Milanović was accompanied at the meeting by Jadranka Žarković, Adviser to the President of the Republic for Education, and Tomislav Paškvalin, Commissioner of the President of the Republic for Sports.
