President Milanović: Since the Prime Minister carries a lot of clout in Brussels, let him help the people detained in Greece
“Those people should either have been sentenced or released. The institute of detention is a very serious institute which, if an individual is under suspicion, you deprive them of their liberty, and put them behind bars. All of that must have been done with in Greece in a matter of a few weeks”, President Milanović told reporters today in Dugo Selo when asked about Croatian citizens detained in Greek prisons, adding that he has nothing more to add on the issue than he already said.
“The parents are bitter, the Prime Minister should have received them. Since he carries a lot of clout in Brussels, he could have arranged something. Legally I don’t see any influence, yet if it’s illegal, then it’s private. If he carries clout, then let him help those people, let him help the people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, let him amend the election law, we mortals can’t”, President Milanović stated when commenting on the gathering of the Bad Blue Boys’ parents and their statement to the press once again calling on institutions, the Government and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković to help get their children released from prison.
President Milanović also commented on the latest information related to the poisoned soft drinks. “I can’t say more than what I already said. I would just suggest to everyone: when being served a drink in an eating or drinking establishment, have it opened in your presence”, the President noted. One cannot fight effectively against fake news, as those spread in this case, because “it is a step towards a police state and terror”. “Both you and I can despise those who do it. However, the competent services failed somewhat. Perhaps they should have reacted a day or two earlier, and dispel the fears and apprehensions, and the restlessness that crept into people. The war against the internet is useless”, the President of the Republic stated.
Asked if the state should have informed the citizens earlier, he said: “Maybe a day or two earlier, but it couldn’t have prevented it. The state can’t”.
