President Milanović Receives Zagreb Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Delegation

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović held a meeting today with the representatives of the University of Zagreb Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, which is celebrating its 104th anniversary this year.

The representatives from the Faculty, led by Dean Marko Samardžija, provided President Milanović with an overview of the work and activities at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine –the sole veterinary medicine faculty in the Republic of Croatia. They emphasized that it stands as the exclusive institution of higher education in Croatia where research and teaching activities are conducted in biomedicine and health within the field of veterinary sciences. Moreover, they highlighted that throughout its history, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has made significant contributions to the advancement of the veterinary profession in Croatia and the surrounding countries. Currently, the Faculty operates through four departments, bringing together a total of 25 institutes and clinics.

The meeting also addressed the current status of the veterinary profession in Croatia. The representatives of the Faculty expressed a desire for their voice to be more widely heard and their advice to be accorded greater respect. Additionally, they delved into ongoing issues, with a primary focus on addressing the challenges faced by the veterinary profession. Notably, the discussion centred around the urgent matter of African swine fever, which currently stands as the most significant problem affecting Croatian pig farming and agriculture as a whole.

In addition to Dean Marko Samardžija, also attending the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic were the Vice Dean for Integrated Undergraduate Studies and Students Ksenija Vlahović, Vice Dean for Finances and Investments Hrvoje Capak, Vice Dean for Science, Postgraduate Studies and International Cooperation Nino Maćešić, Vice Dean for Veterinary Studies in English and Lifelong Learning Marko Pećin and the Vice Dean for Quality Control Gordana Gregurić Gračner.

President Milanović was accompanied by the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Education Jadranka Žarković.
