President Milanović Receives Young Roboticists from Lipovljani who Will Represent Croatia at the World Championship in Houston
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today young roboticists from Lipovljani, members of the Lipovljani Technical Culture Club (LipBots), who won first place in the Croatian final First Lego League competition held at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb, and organized by the Croatian Robotics Association. Thanks to their first place win, the young roboticists from Lipovljani earned a place at the world finals in Houston, Texas, USA, where they will represent Croatia by competing with the best young innovators and programmers in the world.
Members of the Lipovljani Technical Culture Club Lucija Jancetić, Filip Beljan, Roko Piršić, Borna Kos and Josip Biro, along with their leaders and mentors Krešimir Dalenjak and Ivana Grabar, presented their winning project “PoseiDron” to President Milanović. It is an underwater robot for locating and monitoring the invasive species of lionfish, a venomous fish that disrupts the natural balance of the Croatian seabed. With this project, they emphasized, they demonstrated how technology can play a key role in environmental protection.
President Milanović supported the work of the Lipovljani Technical Culture Club, and wished success to the young roboticists from Lipovljani and the best possible placement in the world competition in Houston.
Likewise, President Milanović was acquainted with other activities carried out by the Lipovljani Technical Culture Club, with the strong support of the Lipovljani Municipality and the Lipovljani Municipality Tourist Board, which is primarily the education of primary and secondary school children in the fields of computer science, robotics, programming and aeronautics. Although this is an association founded only in 2022, it has achieved great success in promoting the knowledge and skills of young people in the STEM field and thus successfully promotes the people of Lipovljani, said the Head of the Lipovljani Municipality Nikola Horvat.
Accompanying the young roboticists and their mentors at the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic were the President of the Municipal Council of Lipovljani, Tomislav Lukšić, the President of the Tourist Board of Lipovljani, Marijana Musij, the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb, Prof. Vedran Bilas, PhD, and the President of the Croatian Robotics Association, Ana Sović Kržić, PhD.
Alongside Milanović was the Adviser to the President for Education Jadranka Žarković.
