President Milanović Receives Young Handball Players from Zagreb Clubs who Won 11 Medals during the Championship
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received young handball players, club coaches and the leadership of the Zagreb Handball Association. As the main reason for coming to the Office of the President, they highlighted the fact that the clubs of the Zagreb Handball Association for younger categories in the 2023-2024 season achieved the best results so far: they won five gold medals, five silver and one bronze.
According to the president of the Zagreb Handball Association Vedran Šupuković these results demonstrate the exceptionally high-quality work with children and represent a guarantee of the sustainability of Croatian handball as an important national sport. Since Croatia is hosting the 2025 World Men’s Handball Championship – in conjunction with Denmark and Norway, which will be held from 14 January to 2 February 2025 – the Zagreb Handball Association believes that the successes of young handball players contribute to the global recognition of Croatian handball.
Introducing the Association and its activities, he said that they coordinate the work of handball clubs in Zagreb and the surrounding area, organize competitions and tournaments for all ages, from children and juniors to seniors, and implement programmes for the development of handball, including work with young handball players and coaches. It is an umbrella organization for handball in Zagreb and the surrounding area, founded in 1953 with the aim of promoting, organizing and improving handball activities in the city of Zagreb. The Zagreb Handball Association currently has 19 regular clubs, 2 affiliated clubs, and the Zagreb Wheelchair Handball Club and the Zagreb Academic Beach Handball Club.
The meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic was attended by handball players and their coaches from the Dinamo Zagreb Handball Club, Sesvete Handball Club, Lokomotiva Handball Club, Sesvete Men’s Handball Club, Zagreb Handball Club and Maksimir Pastela Handball Club. All of these clubs won medals in this handball season.
