President Milanović Receives Vice President of Bulgaria Iliana Iotova

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received in the Office of the President the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria Iliana Iotova, who is paying a visit to Croatia on the invitation of the National Bulgarian Community of Croatia.

At the meeting there was discussion on bilateral relations between the two allied and friendly states. Vice President Iotova informed President Milanović of her stay in Croatia. She earlier visited Đakovo to pay tribute to Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer, who, as a revivalist, played an important role in history for the Bulgarian people as well. She also visited the members of the Bulgarian national minority who live in Croatia.

During the meeting there was an exchange of views on the situation in South East Europe including the prospects of European integration for the countries of that part of Europe. President Milanović and Vice President Iotova discussed the enlargement of the euro area, entry into the Schengen Area and the migration issue. The Vice President of Bulgaria conveyed Bulgarian President Rumen Radev’s invitation to President Milanović to pay an Official visit to Bulgaria, which he accepted.

Accompanying the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria at the meeting were the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Croatia Genka Georgieva and the Head of the Cabinet of the Vice President Kristiela Simeonova.

Alongside President Milanović were the Head of the Cabinet of the President Bartol Šimunić, the Adviser to the President for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić, the Adviser to the President for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić and the President of the National Bulgarian Community of Croatia Raško Ivanov.
