The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met today with representatives of the Croatian Archery Association and archery athletes who won medals at competitions in 2022.

Association President Darko Uidl informed President Milanović about the sport’s status and the results achieved by Croatian archers. In his view, Croatian archers are achieving good results at European and world competitions, especially considering the fact that they lack training infrastructure and stronger institutional support. Although to date they have failed to qualify for the Olympic Games, the representatives underscored at the meeting that this remains their key goal. In 1972, namely, archery was put back on the list of Olympic sports.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed some specific aspects of archery, a sport which boasts an equal number of female and male athletes. There are currently about 1,500 registered archers in Croatia and some 500 of them are actively involved in the sport. There are 43 archery clubs in the country, which are most highly concentrated in Zagreb (eight clubs).

Attending the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic, apart from the President of the Croatian Archery Association, were members of the Association’s Council of Experts Andrea Vrbik, Damir Bartol and Hrvoje Špoljar, as well as 2022 medal winners: Mia Međimurec, Mihael Čurić, Amanda Mlinarić, Domagoj Buden, Lara Drobnjak, Alen Remar and Lovro Černi.

Commissioner of the President of the Republic for Sports Željko Jovanović accompanied President Milanović at the meeting.
