President Milanović Receives President of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic of Chile Ricardo Cifuentes Lillo who is on an official visit to the Republic of Croatia.

At the meeting bilateral relations of the two states were assessed as traditionally good and friendly, which is mostly due to the large number of Croatian descendants who live in Chile, and who number between 200,000 and 250,000. The President of the Chamber of Deputies Cifuentes Lillo underlined that the contribution of the Croatian diaspora to the development of the Chilean society and economy is multiple, especially since Croats live in all parts of Chile. President Milanović said that the story of the Croats in Chile is special and emotional for Croatia, noting that he could see this for himself during his official visit to that state.

There was also talk of economic relations between the two countries, though they exist, they haven’t been taken advantage of fully. We would like to strengthen our ties, especially since we share the same vision of a better and more just world, as Lillo stated. They further discussed current global issues, including the problem of illegal migrations that Chile is also experiencing, therefore the Chilean members of Parliament were interested in hearing about the situation with migrations in Europe. 

The Chilean delegation of the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic of Chile Ricardo Cifuentes Lillo included six members of Parliament, and at the same time members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Republic of Croatia. At the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic were the leader of the Interparliamentary Friendship Group Chile-Croatia in the Chamber of Deputies Sofía Cid Versalovic, members of Parliament Vlado Mirosevic Verdugo, Catalina Del Real Mihovilovic, Pamela Jiles Moreno, Raúl Leiva Carvajal, José Miguel Castro Bascuñán, and the Secretary General of the Chamber of Deputies Miguel Landeros Perkic as well as the Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to the Republic of Croatia Cristián Edgardo Streeter Nebel, and the Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission of the Republic of Chile to the Republic of Croatia Andrés Lamoliatte.

Alongside President Milanović was the Adviser to the President of the Republic for National Security Dragan Lozančić, the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić, and the Secretary of the Cabinet for Foreign and European Policy of the Office of the President of the Republic Ivan Mutavdžić.
