The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today the representatives of organizers who will be taking part in an event to commemorate the 450th anniversary of the Croatian-Slovene Peasant Revolt in the town of Donja Stubica, as well as Krapina-Zagorje County Prefect Željko Kolar.

The 450th anniversary event commemorating the Croatian-Slovene Peasant Revolt in Donja Stubica will be held on 11 February 2023 under the auspices of the President of the Republic and with the support of the Town of Donja Stubica and Krapina-Zagorje County. According to the organizers, 260 costumed participants will take part in the re-enactment of the Peasant Revolt and, in addition to Croatian knights’ societies, visiting societies from Slovenia and Slovakia will also participate.

The organized commemoration of the historical event known as the Peasant Revolt began 15 years ago. According to County Prefect Željko Kolar it has long since surpassed the county’s boundaries, becoming one of the leading events in Zagorje that is today a major tourist attraction. The organizers told President Milanović that the objective of the “Peasant Revolt 1573 – the Battle at Stubica” re-enactment is to depict life in the Middle Ages and the events of that time as faithfully as possible.

Apart from County Prefect Željko Kolar and the Director of the Tourist Board of Donja and Gornja Stubica Kornelija Vnučec, the President of the Society of Knights of the Golden Chalice Ivan Štefek, Vice-President of the Society Matija Djanješić and Peasant Revolt character interpreters Krešimir Končevski and Zdravko Grabušić attended the meeting in the Office of the President.
