President Milanović Receives Delegation of Association of University Teachers and Winners of Annual Awards for Young Scientists and Artists
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received in the Office of the President of the Republic today members of the Association of University Teachers and Other Scientists in Zagreb, and the winners of the Annual award presented by the Association to young scientists and artists.
The delegation of the Association of University Teachers and Other Scientists comprised of president Jasna Franekić, vice-president Dean Ajduković, the president of the Association’s Annual Award Commission professor emeritus Mladen Franz, and secretary Hrvoje Tadić, presented their Association to President Milanović, underlining that it is one of the oldest associations with uninterrupted activities that contributes to the development of the University of Zagreb and sciences in Croatia. The 103 year-old Association assembles approx. 450 members, who all work on a voluntary basis, and come from various segments of the University of Zagreb, namely: the Faculty of Agriculture, the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Graphic Arts, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology, and others, and the Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health, and the Institute for Social Research.
After a two-year period of reduced activity caused by the pandemic, the Association has intensified its activities this year, which includes the awards presentation whose goal is to affirm young scientists and artists. Present at the meeting with President Milanović were seven of ten awarded scientists who presented their award-winning works: Nikola Adžaga, Petra Babić, Iva Ćurić, Domina Delač, Evelin Despot-Slade, Natalija Pantalon Juraj and Jasmina Tomas. The traditional Annual award was presented to young scientists and artists for outstanding achievements in the scientific and artistic fields. The Association of University Teachers and other Scientists has been working since 1996. In the past 24 years the award has been presented to 257 laureates. Many of them have successful careers not only in Croatia but abroad as well. The meeting also discussed the situation of science in Croatia, and the opportunities and limitations for the development and competitiveness of Croatian scientists.
