President Milanović Receives Delegation of Association of Police Croatian Defenders in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received representatives of the Association of Police Croatian Defenders in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Attending the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic were Association president Josip Marić, Assembly president Anto Štrbac, Central Bosnia Canton coordinator Ivo Komšić, and members Jozo Laštro and Nikica Petrović.

The Association members acquainted President Milanović with the role of police officers in the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as with the reasons for founding the Association and its activities. The Association of Police Croatian Defenders in Bosnia and Herzegovina was founded less than a year ago with the aim to promote and protect the rights of people who were among the first to get involved in the defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina. More than 2,500 members were engaged in the police units, 150 of them were killed during the war, and 450 were wounded.

Speaking about their service and deployment in the war, they explained that their war unit was engaged on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but that they also took part in the military and police operation “Storm”. The Association today gathers retired Croatian police officers from Central Bosnia, Neum, Mostar, Posavina and are joined by retired police officers from other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Alongside President Milanović at the meeting was the Special Adviser to the President for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Mareković.
