President Milanović Proposes to Prime Minister Andrej Plenković that a Defence Council Session Be Convened
Today, the President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović proposed to Prime Minister Andrej Plenković that the 16th session of the Defence Council be convened. President Milanović proposes that the session be held within the next two weeks.
President Milanović also proposed the topics that should be addressed at the Defence Council session: (1) the preparation and adoption of the Defence Strategy of the Republic of Croatia; (2) the preparation and adoption of the Development Plan of the Croatian Armed Forces; and (3) consider the need and the implementation of the introduction of compulsory military service in the Republic of Croatia. In his proposal to convene a session of the Defence Council, President Milanović indicated that he is open to an agreement on expanding the agenda of the proposed session if the Prime Minister deems it necessary to discuss other defence-related topics.
Pursuant to Article 11, Paragraph 1 of the Defence Act, a session of the Defence Council is jointly convened by the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister.
