President Milanović Pays Tribute to Fallen Police Officer Josip Jović, First Homeland War Victim

The President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Zoran Milanović attended a ceremony on the 31st anniversary of Operation Plitvice commemorating the death of Croatian police officer Josip Jović, the first Croatian defender to have been killed in the Homeland War.

President Milanović laid a wreath and lit a candle at the Memorial to Josip Jović at Plitvice Lakes.

As the first victim of the Homeland War, Josip Jović was killed on 31 March 1991 on Easter Sunday.

Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Siniša Jurković, Deputy Commander of the Croatian Ground Forces Major General Tihomir Kundid, Commander of Operation Plitvice Marko Lukić and Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Mareković attended the commemoration and wreath-laying alongside President Milanović.
