The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today the President of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Croatia Radovan Dobronić at his request.

At the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic, the President of the Supreme Court Radovan Dobronić informed President Milanović of the current situation and problems in the justice system. In his view, the problems are serious and require a systematic solution, and he emphasised the extremely poor working conditions in Croatian courts.

They also discussed the strike of judiciary employees that has entered its sixth week. The President of the Supreme Court indicated the possible consequences of the strike as well as unsolved issues for the justice system. He brought into question the orderly functioning of the judiciary and the exercise of the constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens.

In order to uphold the regular and coordinated functioning and stability of the state, the President warned that the current situation is untenable and, considering the extremely poor financial status of judiciary employees, called on the Government to urgently ensure all the necessary financial, technical and organisational conditions for the normal functioning of the justice system.

“The judiciary must be able to provide citizens with timely and high-quality service because this is the only way it can guarantee citizens equality and the protection of their rights and freedoms”, President Milanović noted.
