President Milanović Meets with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Robert Fico, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Croatia.

At the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic, the traditionally good and friendly relations between Croatia and Slovakia were confirmed, and it was concluded that there are no open issues between the two countries. President Milanović and Prime Minister Fico discussed the political and security situation in Europe and the world, and agreed that further negotiating efforts are primarily needed at the international level to secure peace in Ukraine. Another topic of discussion was the functioning of the European Union in the new international political circumstances, with the agreement that all EU member states have the right to consider their national political and economic interests. They agreed that it is necessary to proceed with EU enlargement to include countries in South-East Europe that meet the conditions. They further discussed the importance of achieving energy security for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, with Slovakia seeing Croatia as an important partner in this area.   

Accompanying the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Robert Fico, at the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic were the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Juraj Blanár; the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to the Republic of Croatia, Hana Kováčová; the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, Katarína Vidovičová, the Director of Protocol, Denisa Ďurišová; the Director of the Press and Communications Office, Alexander Kováč; the Director of the Media Office of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Beatrice Szabóová, and the Deputy Chief of Mission, Zdenko Galbavý.

Alongside President Milanović were the Head of the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Orsat Miljenić; the Ambassdor of the Republic of Croatia to the Slovak Republic, Aleksandar Heina, the Head of Cabinet of the President of the Republic, Bartol Šimunić, the Adviser to the President for Foreign and European Policy, Neven Pelicarić, the Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for the Economy, Velibor Mačkić and the Assistant Adviser to the President of the Republic for Foreign and European Policy, Ivan Mutavdžić.
