After meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović held a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

The Arab League, also known as the League of Arab States, is an association of independent states mostly from the Arabic-speaking area, established in Cairo in 1945. The purpose of the Arab League is to draw closer the relations between member states and coordinate collaboration between them, to safeguard their independence and sovereignty, and to consider in a general way the affairs and interests of the Arab countries.

The Arab League does not allow the use of force in the settlement of disputes between member states and also serves as a platform for drafting documents that promote closer cooperation in economic matters between member states. The League has 22 member states, including Syria, whose membership was suspended in November 2011. The establishment of formal relations between the Arab League and the European Union began in 2007, when the League initiated diplomatic rapprochement with regional organizations and major economic partners.

The Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit took office in 2016 and was re-elected to the post in 2021.

The President of the Republic of Croatia was accompanied at the meeting with the Secretary-General of the Arab League by the Head of the Office of the President Orsat Miljenić, Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in the Arab Republic of Egypt Tomislav Bošnjak, Adviser to the President of the Republic for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić, Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for the Economy Velibor Mačkić and Secretary of the Cabinet for Foreign and European Policy in the Office of the President Ivan Mutavdžić.
