President Milanović Meets with Members of the Croatian Olympians Club

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović today received members of the Croatian Olympians Club, the umbrella organization of all Croatian athletes participating in the Olympic Games, whose main activity is to support former and future Olympians through sports and humanitarian activities.

At the meeting, President Milanović was informed of the activities of the Croatian Olympians Club, whose numerous members, as ambassadors of the Olympic movement, are involved in the work of a number of national and international forums on sport and ethics, non-violence, the fight against doping, and the prevention of every form of discrimination or abuse of sport.

Speaking about their activities, they highlighted the Club’s contribution to the adoption of the new Sports Act, and emphasized their commitment to the greater inclusion of children in sports activities. As Olympians, we must and want to promote sports, with a focus on children aged 7 to 14 years who should be given the opportunity to play sports because it will also have a positive impact on children’s health, the members of the Croatian Olympians Club said.

During the meeting with the President, a number of topics that are essential for the future of sports in Croatia were raised, including a warning that there is currently a shortage of sports professionals, without whom participation in quality sports is impossible, and the necessity of finding new sources of financing for Croatian sports so that it can cope with competition.

Members of the Croatian Olympians Club thanked President Milanović for the fact that the government he led in 2013 introduced permanent financial compensation for sports achievements.

The Croatian Olympians Club was founded in 1993 in Zagreb and is a member of the Croatian Olympic Committee and the World Olympians Association. In September 1995, the Croatian Olympians Club became a full member of the Croatian Olympic Committee, and since 2001, the Club has officially become an association and joined the family of 110 national Olympians associations.
