President Milanović Meets with Delegation of the Association for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Trans, Intersex and Gender Variant Persons
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met today with a delegation from the Association for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Trans, Intersex and Gender Variant Persons (TIGV) KolekTIRV. The delegation included Executive Coordinator Diana Avdić and Advocacy Team Coordinator Nike Doktor.
The Association, founded in February 2012, was introduced to the President during the meeting, whose goal is bolstering the TIGV community by enhancing the visibility of TIGV topics and the community itself, while also advocating for and safeguarding the rights of TIGV individuals. It was mentioned during the meeting that until 2021, the Association operated under the name Trans Aid. Subsequently, in an effort to underscore the diversity within the community whose rights they champion, it rebranded itself as KolekTIRV.
The representatives of the KolekTIRV Association informed President Milanović of their latest campaign, “I am like you,” which aims to highlight both the commonalities among people and the unique challenges faced by trans and gender diverse individuals on a daily basis. This campaign marks the first of its kind in Croatia, and through it, the organization endeavours to shed light on the needs and issues affecting trans and gender diverse individuals. In particular, the campaign emphasizes the right to easy access to healthcare services and a life free from discrimination, as conveyed to President Milanović by the coordinators of the Association.
President Milanović was accompanied at the meeting by Melita Mulić, Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society.
