President Milanović meets with Croatians in New York on eve of today’s address before UN General Assembly
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović is to address today the United Nations General Assembly, whose 78th Session opened in New York on Tuesday. The President of the Republic attended the opening of the General Debate of the UN General Assembly. He took advantage of his stay in New York to meet with Croatians who live there, and in other cities on the East Coast of the USA.
“The world we live in, including Europe, is not ideal. Very often things that are bad are imposed on us as a model, things that have been experienced, but were never any good. I advocate and will advocate a somewhat selfish approach in national politics because Croatia is a small country, yet I will stick to the imperative of humaneness, but first and foremost taking into account what is good for us. We must not fall prey to great ideas and revolutionary projects, nothing comes of it. And as the first Croatian President said – we are a small, but not an insignificant people, let those who have time busy themselves with great ideas. We are doing fine right where we are”, President Milanović told Croatian emigrants at a reception in New York.
As he recently stated in Canada, the President of the Republic told Croatian Americans that Croatia does not need their money, noting that “we do not even want to think of the possibility of being in a situation in which that would be necessary”. He reminded that nobody, except the Croatian diaspora, helped Croatia and that it went through everything alone. President Milanović concluded: “We do not have enemies, nor are we looking for some, we have allies. But Croatia is the only country in Europe that had to do everything on its own. Even today we are holding out, Croatia is moving forward”.
