President Milanović Lays Wreath at Statue of Moses on Holocaust Remembrance Day

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović attended a commemoration today on the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day – Yom Hashoah. At the Statue of Moses in Zagreb’s Mirogoj cemetery President Milanović laid a wreath in memory of the Jewish people killed in the Holocaust and the armed uprising of Jews in the Warsaw ghetto. Accompanying President Milanović was the Special Adviser to the President Julije Domac.

In addition to President Milanović wreaths were laid by representatives of the Jewish Community Zagreb, who were the organizers of the commemoration, representatives of the Coordination of Jewish Communities in the Republic of Croatia, the Ambassador of the State of Israel, representatives of the Croatian Government, the Croatian Parliament and the City of Zagreb. Dr. Ognjen Kraus, President of the Coordination of Jewish Communities in the Republic of Croatia, spoke about Holocaust Remembrance Day. A prayer was recited by the Chief Rabbi of the Coordination of Jewish communities in the Republic of Croatia Luciano Moše Prelević in honour of the Holocaust victims.

Marking Yom Hashoah at the Monument to the Holocaust Victims and Victims of the Ustasha Regime at the Main Railway Station in Zagreb, organized by the Jewish Religious Community “Bet Israel” in Croatia was the delegate of the President of the Republic the Adviser to the President for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić.
