The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović visited Krapina today on the occasion of the Kajkavian Culture Week, an annual cultural and artistic event featuring concerts, performances, exhibitions and other events presenting the Kajkavian tradition and customs.

Accompanied by the hosts, Krapina-Zagorje County-prefect Željko Kolar, the mayor of Krapina Zoran Gregurović, the president of the Chamber of Trades and Crafts of Krapina-Zagorje County Nenad Kučiš and the president of the Croatian Chamber of Economy – Krapina County Chamber of Economy Anđelko Švaljek, President Milanović toured the exhibitors at the 32nd “Zagorski gospodarski zbor 2024“ international fair.

After touring the fair where craftspeople and businesspeople showcased their services and products, President Milanović attended the first evening of this year’s “Kajkavian Song Festival – 39th children’s festival entitled “Kaj u riječi, pjesmi, slici i plesu“ (the Kaj dialect in words, songs, pictures and dances).

At the first evening of this year’s “Kajkavian Song Festival – 39th children’s festival “Kaj u riječi, pjesmi, slici i plesu“ or “Mali kaj”, 28 songs were performed by elementary school pupils from the entire Kajkavian region individually or choirs from elementary schools in Konjščina, Varaždin, Ljubeščica, Zagreb, Đurmanec, Veliko Trgovišće, Popovača, Đurđevac, Ravna Gora, Čabar, Gornje Jesenje, Klanjec, Sveti Križ Začretje, Kumrovec, Skrad, Krapina, Petrovsko, Bedekovčina, Virje, Zlatar and Desinić.

The Kajkavian song festival is one of the oldest Croatian music festivals. It was held for the first time in 1966, and it marks the end of the Kajkavian Culture Week in Krapina every year. This year the Festival consists of three festival evenings. The first evening is dedicated to children performing songs, the second evening is a retrospective, i.e. a selection of songs from previous festivals, while the third evening is dedicated to the performance of new songs.
