“I got the impression that people mostly vote with their feet, meaning that they go where they want to be, most of the time. Not everyone has that privilege, but, as a rule, a free person votes with their feet. And if we measure by that, then people vote for Križevci”, the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović stated today at the special session of the Križevci Town Council.

Earlier he visited several companies in the town and, based on his conversations with people, he concluded that Križevci is a desirable town to live in. “What I have seen here today in Križevci is maybe by accident a selected sample, but these are people who have a choice to vote with their feet and live elsewhere, in big cities. Here we have two young doctors of physics, doctors of science, who after their education, big opportunities and having completed top schools decided to live in Križevci and build an observatory. They can make a choice”, President Milanović noted, who earlier in the day in Križevci toured the Observatory as well as the Križevci Development Centre and Technology Park.

Underlining that such decisions were unthinkable in the past, President Milanović said that today they are totally normal. “In this aspect Križevci is one of the better towns in Croatia; a small, courteous and pleasant town. Unfortunately, in Croatia there are many communities in which there are many more houses than people. It’s not the people’s fault. The state will have to do its part in order to do very much – there is no clear-cut recipe – to raise them to a level when people will again start to vote with their feet”, President Milanović remarked.

In congratulating the residents of Križevci on the 771st anniversary of their town, he told them that “they are led by young people who seem to know their job well and are leading their town in an excellent direction”.

Also speaking at the ceremony marking Križevci Day besides President Milanović were the President of the Križevci Town Council Igor Frbežar, the Mayor of Križevci Mario Rajn, on behalf of all the mayors and heads of municipalities the Mayor of the City of Koprivnica Mišel Jakšić, and Koprivnica-Križevci County-Prefect and Prime Minister’s delegate Darko Koren.
