President Milanović Expects All Members of the European Union to Recognize the Independence of Kosovo

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today Donika Gërvalla-Schwartz, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Croatia.

At the meeting in the Office of the President, President Milanović and Minister Gërvalla-Schwartz discussed bilateral relations between Croatia and Kosovo, the current plan for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, Kosovo’s membership in the United Nations and other international organizations, and Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic prospects.

President Milanović confirmed to Minister Gërvalla-Schwarz that Kosovo has always had and can continue to count on solid support from the Republic of Croatia when it comes to the international affirmation of its independence and Euro-Atlantic prospects. We expect all members of the European Union to recognize the independence of Kosovo, said President Milanović.

The President of the Republic welcomed efforts invested to normalize relations between Kosovo and Serbia, which would ensure long-term stability in Southeast Europe and European prospects for the entire region.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo attended the meeting in the company of the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to the Republic of Croatia Martin Berishaj, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo Kreshnik Ahmeti, Political Adviser Shpetim Hajdaraj and Personal Secretary Besiana Havolli.

President Milanović was accompanied at the meeting by the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Republic of Kosovo Danijela Barišić, Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic Bartol Šimunić, Adviser to the President of the Republic for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić, Adviser to the President of the Republic for National Security Dragan Lozančić and the Secretary of the Cabinet for Foreign and European Policy in the Office of the President Ivan Mutavdžić.
