President Milanović Attends University of Zagreb School of Dental Medicine Anniversaries

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović attended today the centennial of higher education in dental medicine in the Republic of Croatia and the 60^th anniversary of the autonomy of the University of Zagreb School of Dental Medicine.

President Milanović congratulated on the anniversary of this higher education institution and said that the 100^th anniversary of this institution is a major accomplishment. “This School is the pride of the University of Zagreb. It is the mother of all quality education institutions and, unfortunately, one of the few Croatian institutions of higher education that can make you proud and with which you can identify abroad. We need more of these! Congratulations on one hundred years and my wish is that as many dentists as possible remain in Croatia. That would be good for the country and the elderly, our bite will be stronger. This kind of force is what we need in the world we live!”, President Milanović noted.

President Milanović referred in his address to the criteria for assessing wealth and the progress of nations and states saying that the gross domestic product is a generally accepted criterion. With regard to the GDP, he said that its methodology is complex and therefore subjected to various analyses and corrections. It will say a lot about the state of a nation, but it can also be deceiving. He also mentioned the method of life expectancy which he deems unreliable. “But one thing is reliable – the condition of young people’s teeth, the number of teeth and their general condition”, President Milanović stated.

During the centennial celebration of higher education of professionals in dentistry in the Republic of Croatia and the 60^th anniversary of the separation of dentistry from the School of Medicine and its existence as an autonomous higher education teaching profession, which is the basis of oral healthcare, the Croatian Medical Association awarded a Charter to the University of Zagreb School of Dental Medicine, which the President of the Association Prof. Željko Krznatić, PhD, presented to the dean of the School of Dental Medicine Prof. Zrinka Tarle, PhD. Furthermore, the dean of the School of Dental Medicine presented acknowledgments, recognitions and plaques to retired and guest lecturers as well as to representatives of teaching units.

The Adviser to the President for Education Jadranka Žarković attended the anniversary celebration alongside President Milanović.
