The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović visited the town of Dugo Selo today, where the 12th annual “Stara jela iz Dugog Sela” (“Old Dishes from Dugo Selo”), a traditional gastronomic, cultural, and entertainment event, is taking place.

Accompanied by the host, the Mayor of Dugo Selo, Nenad Panian, and the Director of the Tourist Board of Dugo Selo, Karmela Vukov-Colić, President Milanović visited the exhibitors presenting products and traditional dishes from the Posavina-Prigorje area.

During the tour of the exhibitors, the hosts told President Milanović that the event “Stara jela iz Dugog Sela” (“Old dishes from Dugo Selo”) differs in many ways from similar gastronomic events. Specifically, following the trends of sustainable tourism and environmental protection, disposable plastic is not used at the event. Instead, tin plates, which evoke the industrial heritage of the former Gorica enamelware factory, are used and also serve as a souvenir that visitors can take home.

The Dugo Selo gastronomic event “Stara jela iz Dugog Sela” is organized by the town of Dugo Selo and the Tourist Board of Dugo Selo with the aim of promoting traditional dishes and preserving the culture of the Posavina-Prigorje area. The three-day event is held in the centre of Dugo Selo under the motto “Where tradition meets modernity,” offering visitors excellent local and traditional savoury and sweet specialities, along with numerous free workshops.

President Milanović was accompanied by Velibor Mačkić, Adviser to the President of the Republic for the Economy.
