President Milanović Attends Renaissance Festival in Koprivnica

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović attended this evening in Koprivnica the historical and tourist event Renaissance Festival. The Renaissance Festival is a four-day event which reconstructs the period when Koprivnica was a free royal city (1356). It mainly deals with the period from the end of the 15th century and the 16th century, from which the remains of the fortifications originate, where the entire programme takes place.

The Renaissance Festival, organized since 2006, showcases the traditions and customs of this part of Croatia and Europe, featured through the performances of numerous knightly, artisan and musical groups and is the largest fair of medieval crafts in this part of Europe. More than 1,000 costumed performers from Croatia and dozens of European countries take part in the wide variety of programmes.

The event is a true example of the development of the European identity of the City and the Region and has received a number of awards and recognitions as a particularly valuable tourist product, and it was declared “The Best Tourist Event in Croatia” in 2019.

President Milanović attended the programme that took place in front of the Koprivnica fortifications, the remains of the former magnificent Renaissance anti-Turkish fort, where the arrival of the knights’ groups was staged and the ceremony of awarding the Charter of the Free Royal City to the citizens of Koprivnica, the presentation of the knights’ groups and the presentation of the City Judge was held.

In the company of Koprivnica-Križevci county-prefect Darko Koren, mayor of Koprivnica Koprivnica Mišela Jakšić, deputy-mayor Ksenija Ostriž and the director of the Tourist Board of the City of Koprivnica Renato Labazan, President Milanović toured the exhibitors at the Renaissance Festival following the programme. Alongside President Milanović was the head of the Cabinet of the President Bartol Šimunić.
