President Milanović Attends Promotion of the Book “Vjekoslav Šafranić”

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović attended a presentation ceremony for the book “Vjekoslav Šafranić,” authored by Josip Maras and Lovorko Magdić. The book is a comprehensive biography of Vjekoslav Šafranić, a Croatian sports legend and pioneer in karate, as well as the first mixed martial arts star in the region. Šafranić, an accomplished athlete who received numerous awards, is also a coach and sports official currently serving as the President of the Sports Association of the City of Zagreb.

The book seamlessly weaves together the various facets of Šafranić’s journey, encompassing his early years in Hrašće near Buzin, remarkable achievements in sports, successful business career, and his present role as the President of the Sports Association of the City of Zagreb.

Speaking about Vjekoslav Šafranić at the book promotion were the State Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Tomislav Družak, former Minister of the Interior and Deputy Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, and former President of the Croatian Karate Union, Ivan Jarnjak, former Croatian basketball player Andro Knego, former President of the Croatian Karate Union and Šafranić’s coach Berislav Jandrić, former national team member and former Yugoslavia’s multiple karate champion Zdenko Protuđer, President of the Croatian Karate Union Davor Cipek and the President of the Croatian Kickboxing Federation Tomislav Bilandžić.

The book about Šafranić was in fact started by Marija Magdić, the mother of the book’s author and well-known Croatian Radio journalist Lovorko Magdić, who completed the book together with Josip Maras. Maras, the former mayor of Poreč, also published a book about the ATP tennis tournament “Priča iz Umaga” [A Story from Umag].

President Milanović was accompanied at the event by Marijan Mareković, Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for Homeland War Veterans.
