On the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the Statute of Dubrovnik President Milanović Receives the Director of the Croatian State Archives in Dubrovnik Nikolina Pozniak and Academician Nella Lonza
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received in the Office of the President of the Republic today the director of the Croatian State Archives in Dubrovnik Nikolina Pozniak and academician Nella Lonza. The occasion was the celebration of the 750th anniversary of the Statute of Dubrovnik.
The Statute of Dubrovnik is a law book, composed in 1272, and although it is not the oldest in Europe or on our littoral, it has become and remains the foundation of the legal order of the Dubrovnik community for more than five centuries. Since the Statute has over time become one of the most eloquent attributes of the Dubrovnik community and an important element of its collective identity along with St. Blaise and the walls, the City of Dubrovnik has proclaimed this year the Year of the Statute of Dubrovnik on the initiative of the Croatian State Archives.
Director Pozniak and academician Lonza informed President Milanović that the main celebration of the 750th anniversary of the proclamation of the Statute of Dubrovnik was held on 29 May in Sponza Palace, headquarters of the State Archives where the two oldest official copies of the Statute are kept. Furthermore, they said that the State Archives cooperated with the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts’ Institute of Historical Sciences in Dubrovnik, which completed the exhibition with exhibits from its holdings. The author of this year’s exhibition, the concept itself and the selection of exhibits is academician Nella Lonza. In the end, they expressed confidence that the Republic of Croatia will take advantage of this great anniversary in order to present the rich legal heritage of Dubrovnik to domestic and foreign visitors.
Alongside President Milanović at the meeting were the Special Adviser to the President for Culture Zdravko Zima, and the Adviser to the President for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić.
