National Security Council Meeting Held
A National Security Council meeting jointly convened by the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces Zoran Milanović and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković was held on 23rd November 2020.
The Annual Guidelines for the Work of Security and Intelligence Agencies for 2021 were adopted at the meeting in accordance with the Security and Intelligence System Act and the establishment of cooperation of security and intelligence agencies with foreign services was approved according to demonstrated needs.
Council members considered the situation related to radicalization in Croatian society condemning the attack on St. Mark’s Square on 12th October 2020 and qualified it as a criminal act with elements of terrorism. They discussed possible measures to be taken in this regard and condemned hate speech and unacceptable conduct in society.
The Council underlined the further need to advocate the rights of Croats as a constituent people in Bosnia and Herzegovina according to the spirit and letter of the Dayton Peace Agreement and the importance of respecting the rights of each people to elect their own representatives.
The Council discussed the status of Croats in Serbia and Montenegro and is committed to ensure reciprocity in mutual relations, underlining further support for the Croatian minority in those countries.
Council members were briefed on the current situation in terms of the coronavirus epidemic in Croatia.
The Council discussed the state of affairs in the judiciary with a special focus on the fight against corruption and organized crime.
