Is Plenković Pushing the Introduction of Compulsory Military Service in Croatia to Prepare Croatian Troops to go to War in Ukraine?
“The statement Prime Minister Andrej Plenković made after returning from the summit of Ukraine’s Western allies in Paris definitely confirms that Andrej Plenković is a prime minister with dangerous intentions, who, if he could, would take Croatia and Croatian troops to fight in the war in Ukraine. His words clearly indicate that “Croatia did not offer to send its soldiers to Ukraine” just and only because Plenković at this time cannot count on the support of the Croatian Parliament and the President of the Republic for such insanity.
“Four votes were short in the Croatian Parliament to approve Croatia’s participation in the training of Ukrainian soldiers”, therefore “since we didn’t succeed even symbolically, we didn’t even offer the option of Croatian troops going to Ukraine”, Plenković said. Hence, Plenković has not regretted to this day that the Croatian Parliament prevented the indirect involvement of Croatia in the war in Ukraine. And it especially bothers him that he is not able to take Croatia now into an even bigger disaster, i.e. he is not able to offer unilaterally to send Croatian troops to fight in Ukraine. If it were not for the Croatian Parliament and the President of the Republic, it is clear that Plenković would directly involve Croatia in the war in Ukraine.
For the sake of security and the interest of Croatia and its citizens, Andrej Plenković must provide clear answers to certain questions. What exactly was discussed in Paris and what did Plenković promise there on Croatia’s behalf (as he promised last year the training of Ukrainian soldiers without consulting the President of the Republic)? On whose behalf and in whose interest does Plenković give himself the right to take part in discussions on the participation of Croatian troops in the war in Ukraine? Is Plenković pushing the introduction of compulsory military service in Croatia to prepare Croatian troops to go to war in Ukraine?
The position of President Milanović is firm and clear: as long as he is the head of state and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces, no Croatian soldier will go to fight in the war in Ukraine. The only solution to the war in Ukraine is a peace agreement that will prevent new casualties and save thousands of lives. The President of the Republic has been saying this since the war started, and that will be his policy in the future as well. Although for the sake of his personal promotion Andrej Plenković was obviously prepared to participate in establishing an alibi for the failures of Brussels’ previous strategy to stop the war in Ukraine, the President of the Republic guarantees that Croatia and its troops will not participate in it.
