Felipe VI, The King of Spain, and Letizia, The Queen of Spain, on Their First Official Visit to Croatia on Wednesday and Thursday
Their Majesties Felipe VI, the King of Spain, and Letizia, the Queen of Spain, will pay an official visit to the Republic of Croatia on Wednesday and Thursday, 16-17 November 2022, marking the first official visit of the Spanish monarchs to Croatia. The King and Queen of Spain will be hosted by the President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović and the President’s wife Prof. Sanja Musić Milanović, Ph. D., with whom the royal couple will meet after the official welcoming ceremony in the Office of the President of the Republic, where a bilateral meeting of the two delegations will also take place.
The King and Queen of Spain are paying an official visit to Croatia in the year in which the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Kingdom of Spain is being marked. The visit will serve as confirmation of the exceptionally good bilateral relations and encourage their further deepening. To this end, on Thursday, the second day of the visit, the Croatian-Spanish IFMIF-DONES Forum will be held, in which President Milanović and King Felipe VI will participate, and at which the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Kingdom of Spain on cooperation in the process of drafting the DONES Programme is scheduled to take place.
The project envisages a partnership between Croatia and Spain in fusion research, in addition to a partnership in the development and construction of the DONES accelerator, and a partnership between Croatian and Spanish companies in the construction of equipment for large scientific projects. The DONES project is also an opportunity for Croatian high-tech companies. In 2018, DONES was placed as a Spanish-Croatian initiative on the list of ESFRI projects that are of strategic importance for the EU.
As part of the Spouses Programme, on Thursday Prof. Sanja Musić Milanović, Ph. D., and Queen Letizia will visit the SUVAG Polyclinic for the Rehabilitation of Listening and Speech in Zagreb, where they will be informed about the Polyclinic’s work with children, which includes the medical rehabilitation of preschool children. Likewise, the project “Healthy Living in School – Physical Activity Polygons” will be presented to Queen Letizia at the multisensory playground of the Polyclinic.
During his official stay in Zagreb, King Felipe VI of Spain will also meet with the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandroković and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković.
