President Milanović Visits Sisak and Petrinja, Congratulates Women’s Day to All Women of Croatia
On the occasion of International Women’s Day the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović visited the Faculty of Metallurgy in Sisak, where he held a working meeting with the dean, vice deans and students of the Faculty. The role of women in science and higher education was among the topics discussed at the meeting.
Participating in the meeting with President Milanović were Professor Zdenka Zovko Brodarac, Ph. D., Dean, Associate Professor Natalija Dolić, Ph. D., Vice Dean for Education, Assistant Professor Ivana Ivanić, Ph. D., Vice Dean for Science and Finances, and Kristina Ikić Baniček, Mayor of Sisak.
“It was a great delight and pleasure to pay a visit today to the Faculty of Metallurgy, which is part of the University of Zagreb – a Faculty that has existed here for decades and is not giving up and is fighting, despite all the changes that have happened”, President Milanović said after the meeting. He noted that marking International Women’s Day was the reason for his visit: “International Women’s Day and the fact that only women are in charge at this Faculty, in the governing board, which is very unusual considering the nature of their profession that is stereotypically considered to be male-dominated”, President Milanović said, adding that it is unusual and interesting that women comprise one-half of the student body at the Faculty of Metallurgy.
“In Sisak – the cradle of Croatian metallurgy that has had its ups and downs, the struggle for survival, for progress – that knowledge is being preserved. Doctoral studies are also organized here in cooperation with the University of Zagreb, the parent institution, which is a great success given the complexity and intensity of such studies”, said President Milanović.
The President chose to visit an “atypical collective” on International Women’s Day, one that is different from other such environments. “I am confident that the state and the ministry, for their part, and (the Faculty) for their part, will further improve this institution in the struggle for European money, so that this will really become a Faculty where students will come, not only from this region but from all parts of Croatia”, the President of the Republic concluded, congratulating International Women’s Day to all women in Croatia.
After holding meetings at the Faculty of Metallurgy in Sisak, President Milanović visited the Petrinja branch of the Faculty of Teacher Education, where he spoke with the dean, vice dean and professors, and toured the earthquake-damaged buildings of the Faculty.
Participating in the meeting with President Milanović at the Petrinja branch of the Faculty of Teacher Education of the University of Zagreb were Professor Siniša Opić, Ph. D., Dean, Professor Marko Badrić, Ph. D., Vice Dean at the Petrinja Department, Assistant Professor Alenka Mikulec, Ph. D., Department Professor, Assistant Professor Jelena Blašković, Ph. D., Department Professor, and Ms. Božica Vujić, Department Professor.
