President Milanović Endorses Outstanding Young Croatian Computer Scientists

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović today received representatives of the Croatian Society of Computer Scientists [Hrvatski savez informatičara] and pupils of primary and secondary schools who have won awards at European and world IT competitions.

Young Croatian computer scientists have achieved great success at various competitions held in August and September this year. At the largest and most important international competition, the 32^nd International Olympiad in Informatics, they won one gold, two silver and one bronze medal; at the 27^th Central European Olympiad in Informatics they won one gold, two silver and one bronze medal; at the 4^th European Junior Olympiad in Informatics EJOI 2020, the Croatian junior informatics team, composed only of primary school pupils, won one silver and two bronze medals.

In order to express his support and congratulate them on their success, President Milanović received the following young individuals: Lara Semeš, 8^th grade pupil at the Kajzerica Elementary School in Zagreb, Luka Protulipac, 8^th grade pupil at the A. Stepinac Elementary School in Zagreb, Fran Škarica, 7^th grade pupil at the A. G. Matoš Elementary School in Zagreb, Nikola Vujica, 7^th grade pupil at the Bogumil Toni Elementary School in Samobor, Martin Josip Kocijan, 4^th grade pupil at the J. Slavenski Gymnasium in Čakovec, Dorijan Lendvaj, 2^nd grade pupil at the 15^th Gymnasium in Zagreb, Krešimir Nežmah, 3^rd grade pupil at the 15^th Gymnasium in Zagreb and Patrick Pavić, 2^nd grade pupil at the 15^th Gymnasium in Zagreb. Also attending the meeting with President Milanović were the Secretary of the Croatian Society of Computer Scientists and Secretary of the Committee for the Organisation of Competitions in Informatics Krešimir Malnar and the Manager of the Croatian IT Team Ivan Paljak.

President Milanović called on the young computer scientists to stay in Croatia after completing their education and to employ their first-class knowledge for their own benefit, but also for the benefit of Croatia. Croatia has been participating in international Olympiads in informatics since 1993 and its young minds in the field have regularly won accolades in competitions the world over. To date, they have won 93 medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics, 76 medals at the Central European Olympiad in Informatics and 13 medals at the European Junior Olympiad in Informatics.
