The President of the Republic, Zoran Milanović, received today a delegation from the 33rd edition of the Music Biennale Zagreb, one of the longest-running and most relevant cultural events in Zagreb on a global scale. The 33rd edition of the Music Biennale Zagreb, which is traditionally held under the patronage of the President of the Republic, runs from the 5th to the 12th of April and is entitled “Broken Connections”. The programme includes the most relevant and current musical trends of today that explore the themes of connection and innovation: from contemporary and experimental forms to interdisciplinary collaborations in the fields of visual art, electronics and theatre.

At the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic, the organizers presented the programme of this year’s Music Biennale Zagreb to President Milanović and emphasized that there is a very high interest in the festival among the Croatian public, the largest festival in the last ten years. They were especially pleased that they have a large young audience. Through the selection of the music programme, they said, they have opened the festival to a young audience that is eager for a new musical experience, as they do not want the music festival to be elitist. Thanks also to the programme selection, the Music Biennale Zagreb has once again become an internationally relevant music festival, the organizers concluded.

On behalf of the festival organizers, the meeting was attended by representatives of the Croatian Composers’ Society: Secretary General Antun Tomislav Šaban and Programme and Development Advisor of the Croatian Composers’ Society Marija Saraga, as well as representatives of the Music Biennale, Executive Director Fanny Martin and Artistic Directors Ivan Josip Skender, Tomislav Oliver and Davor Vincze.

This year, the festival has brought together more than 230 performers from over 30 countries, and is taking place in almost 20 cultural venues in Zagreb. The festival will feature 28 premieres of new compositions, including works by Croatian and international composers. The programme will also include numerous collaborations with reputable institutions such as the Croatian National Theatre, Croatian Radio and Television and the Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb, while independent cultural organizations such as ZEZ, KONTEJNER, MaMe, Močvara and Peti kupe will provide late-night club performances.

Alongside President Milanović was the Special Adviser to the President for Culture Zdravko Zima.
