The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Hristijan Mickoski, who is on a two-day official visit to the Republic of Croatia. One of the main topics of discussion was North Macedonia’s membership in the European Union, namely the obstacles that still stand in the way of North Macedonia’s towards full-fledged membership in the EU.  President Milanović confirmed to Prime Minister Mickoski that Croatia will further strongly support and advocate North Macedonia’s accession to the EU.

“The European Union is dishonest with North Macedonia. So far the Macedonians have fulfilled multiple conditions imposed on them in order to speed up negotiations and their accession to the EU, but, in spite of that, their membership is still not in sight. All this demonstrates that the EU does not have a sincere and honest approach to North Macedonia“, President Milanović noted. At the meeting, they also discussed relations between the two states that, and they agreed, are traditionally good and friendly.

Accompanying the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Hristijan Mickoski at the talks were the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timčo Mucunski, the Minister of Health Arben Taravari, the Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska, the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to the Republic of Croatia Milaim Fetai, the Head of the Prime Minister’s Office Vladimir Neloski, the external consultant for foreign policy and special representative of the Prime Minister in the negotiating process with the European Union Sašo Markovski, the Head of the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, special adviser Marjan Hristov and the Minister plenipotentiary in the Embassy of the Republic of North Macedonia Maja Apostolova Balaburski.

Alongside President Milanović were the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Republic of North Macedonia Nives Tiganj, the Adviser to the President for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić, the Adviser to the President for Education Jadranka Žarković and the Secretary of the Cabinet for Foreign and European Policy in the Office of the President of the Republic Ivan Mutavdžić.
