President Milanović Receives Delegation of Croatian Society of Classical Philologists
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today a delegation of the Croatian Society of Classical Philologists celebrating 50 years of activity this year. A special session on the occasion of the anniversary of the society of professors was held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic on 25 April in the Croatian State Archives in Zagreb.
It is one of the oldest and largest association of Latin and Greek professors in this part of Europe. The Society was founded on 25 April 1974 as an association dedicated to the development, advancement and popularization of classical philology, the research of ancient culture and civilization and its legacy, as well as the study of medieval and modern, especially Croatian, Latinity.
At the meeting, the members of the delegation acquainted President Milanović with the Society’s work and activities adding that they are a key partner of employees in education and teaching institutions in designing Latin and Greek teaching programmes. Moreover, they noted that they cooperate with related associations in the Republic of Croatia and abroad contributing to the development of ancient studies, and assisting in the development of scientific work in the field of classical philology and classical culture.
The delegation of the Croatian Society of Classical Philologists was comprised of president Šime Demo, secretary Barbara Turin, members of the Management Board Anđelko Golob and Maja Tabak Demo, past presidents Ivan Bekavac Bašić and Angela Crnobrnja, members of the Supervisory Board Olga Horvat and Marija Pustišek, and Society members Bruna Kuntić Makvić and Kornelija Pavlić.
Alongside President Milanović were the Adviser to the President for Education Jadranka Žarković and the Special Adviser to the President for Culture Zdravko Zima.
