The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović today received ultramarathon runner Zdravko Jadrijev, his coach Marin Koceić, and Nebojša Lujanović, the president of the Marathon Club “Marjan” from Split. This meeting follows the achievements of Jadrijev, who is a member of the Croatian national team, in the past year.

Zdravko Jadrijev, a member of the Croatian national team and the Marathon Club “Marjan” from Split, has so far completed more than 40 marathons/ultramarathons and has set Croatian records in running for 6, 12, and 24 hours five times. Jadrijev is also the captain of the Croatian ultramarathon team. He managed to achieve two major results in 2023, at the IAU 24 Hour World Championship in Taiwan and at the VILS ULTRA MARATHON 2023 in Sarajevo.

At the IAU 24 Hour World Championship in Taiwan in December, the Croatian team competed and achieved a high 7th place in both the men’s and women’s competitions.  Individually, Jadrijev excelled in the M50 category, finishing the race in 13th place with a new Croatian record of 259 kilometres and 550 meters. At the competition in Sarajevo, Jadrijev won the 12-hour race, covering a distance of 150 kilometres and 345 meters, setting a new Croatian record in this discipline. His result ranks sixth globally for the year and also sets a new world record for the M50 category (ages 50 to 54).

An ultramarathon is a running discipline that is longer than the traditional marathon distance (42.195 km). There are two types of ultramarathons: those with a set distance to be completed in the shortest time possible, and those with a set time duration in which participants aim to cover as much distance as possible. Common distances for ultramarathons include 50 and 100 kilometres or 50 and 100 miles, while timed ultramarathons typically range from 6, 12, 24, or 48 hours.

Ultra-runner Zdravko Jadrijev’s son, Toni Jadrijev, was alongside his father. President Milanović was accompanied by Željko Jovanović, Commissioner of the President of the Republic for Sports.
