President Milanović Views Exhibition of the Works of Ivan Meštrović – Retrospective in Klovićevi Dvori Gallery
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović viewed today an exhibition of a retrospective of Ivan Meštrović’s works in the Klovićevi Dvori Gallery on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest Croatian artists.
With the expert guidance by the author of the exhibition Klovićevi Dvori Gallery museum consultant Petra Vugrinec and The Meštrović Atelier museum consultant Barbara Vujanović, President Milanović viewed the largest artistic presentation of Meštrović’s oeuvre in the last 40 years. In the organization of The Ivan Meštrović Museums and Klovićevi Dvori Gallery, the exhibition brings together the worldwide scattered oeuvre of the famous Croatian sculptor, builder, publicist and essayist. The works of art arrived from the United States, England, Italy, Austria, Czechia, Slovenia, Serbia and mostly from Croatia.
The exhibition includes all the phases of Meštrović’s creativity. With rarely exhibited works of art from Croatian and foreign museums and institutions as well as private collections, the relevance of Meštrović’s work on a European and global scale is highlighted, and an effort is made to acquaint younger generations with the importance of this artist and the value of his art. The aim of the exhibition is to recall the leading position of Ivan Meštrović, who redefined the meaning and direction of figurative art with his classic, Mediterranean identity, wide range of motifs, stylistic involvements and familiarity with various materials and media. President Milanović was joined by Mrs. Rumjana Meštrović in viewing the exhibition. Alongside President Milanović was the Head of the Office of the President Orsat Miljenić, the Special Adviser to the President for Culture Zdravko Zima and the Adviser to the President for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić.
