President Milanović Meets with Representatives of Red Cross Society of Osijek-Baranja County on the Occasion of 20th Youth Summer School
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today the representatives of the Red Cross Society of Osijek-Baranja County on the occasion of the holding of the 20th edition of the Youth Summer School, which was organized by the Red Cross Society of Osijek-Baranja County. The Youth Summer School is the only one of its kind in Croatia and the Red Cross Society of Osijek-Baranja County was presented with the “Special Volunteer Recognition” award of the Croatian Red Cross for implementing the Youth Summer School programme during the past 20 years.
Participating in this year’s Youth Summer School, which was held on 20-28 August in Orahovica, were one hundred young volunteers from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, as well as young people from Ukraine who are residing in Croatia, the delegation said. They explained that at the Summer School, young people are taught and trained for all types of activities usually carried out by the Red Cross: first aid programmes, realistic depictions of injuries, programmes for members of Red Cross field units, for leaders of programmes related to migrations, stereotypes, prejudices and prevention of human trafficking, and for leaders of programmes related to climate change and substance abuse prevention.
President Milanović commended the Red Cross Society of Osijek-Baranja County for its activities and expressed his support to the organization for its work, while emphasizing the noble and worthwhile nature of its efforts through the Youth Summer School.
Attending the meeting in the Office of the President on behalf of the Red Cross Society of Osijek-Baranja County were Society President Marko Đukić, Director Goran Latković, Assembly representative and member of the Osijek-Baranja County RCS Committee who is also the Director of the Osijek Red Cross Martina Hećimović, as well as honorary member of the Red Cross Society of Osijek-Baranja County and former President of the Republic of Croatia Stjepan Mesić.
President Milanović was accompanied at the meeting by the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić.
