President Milanović Receives ICRC President Mirjana Špoljarić Egger
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today International Committee of the Red Cross president Mirjana Špoljarić Egger. They discussed the longstanding cooperation between the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Republic of Croatia, which has regularly participated in financing the ICRC’s humanitarian activity. The meeting also addressed the ICRC’s humanitarian activity in hotspots around the world that are a result of natural disasters, weather related disasters and wars.
Mirjana Špoljarić Egger, a Swiss diplomat born in Croatia, was elected president of the ICRC in October 2022 and is the first woman elected to lead this important world humanitarian organization. Croatia has been cooperating with the International Committee of the Red Cross since 1991. From 2017 to 2020, the Croatian Red Cross was a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Governance thanks to its experience and regional leadership in preparedness and crisis management.
Alongside Mrs. Mirjana Špoljarić Egger at the meeting with President Milanović was the head of the Cabinet of the ICRC president Elyse Mosquini, and alongside President Milanović was the Head of the Office of the President of the Republic Orsat Miljenić, the Adviser to the President for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić, the Adviser to the President for Education Jadranka Žarković, and the Permanent Chargé d’affaires in the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Croatia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva Gordan Markotić.
