President Milanović on working visit to Canada and USA where he will participate in UN General Assembly Session
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović will pay a working visit to Canada and the United States of America from 16 to 24 September where he will participate in the United Nations General Assembly Session in New York. The opening of the General Debate of the UN General Assembly Session is scheduled for Tuesday, 19 September, and President Milanović is to address the General Assembly on Wednesday, 20 September.
During his stay in New York, President Milanović will also take part in the Sustainable Goals Development Summit – to be held in the UN on Monday, 18 September – where discussion will focus on “Scaling up actions on key transitions to accelerate SDG progress“. President Milanović will further meet with members of the Croatian community at a reception organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia to the USA and the Consulate General in New York.
Before arriving in New York, President Milanović will spend two days in Canada, in the Province of Ontario, where he will meet with members of the Croatian community and institutions that assemble Canadian Croatians. He will visit St. Sebastian Catholic Elementary School in Mississauga, “Queen of Peace” Croatian Franciscan Centre in Norval as well as Holy Cross Croatian Roman Catholic Church in Hamilton. In Burlington he will meet with Canadian-Croatian businesspeople and attend a reception for the Croatian community organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia to Canada and the Consulate General in Mississauga. A working visit with the Premier of Ontario Doug Ford is also planned.
After participating in the UN General Assembly Session in New York, President Milanović will visit Croats who live in New Orleans and its vicinity, in the southern USA. The main event during President Milanović’s stay in New Orleans will be the opening ceremony of the new Croatian Center in Belle Chasse, which will also be attended by the Lieutenant Governor of the State of Louisiana Billy Nungesser. President Milanović will subsequently visit the city of Biloxi where he will meet with Mayor Andrew Gilich, the only mayor in the United States who is a Croat and who will organize a meeting between President Milanović and the Croatian community that lives in that part of the USA.
Accompanying President Milanović on his working visit to Canada and the USA is his spouse Prof. Sanja Musić Milanović, who, in addition to a number of activities, will participate in an event in the UN on Tuesday, 19 September in New York jointly organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Regional Office of the World Health Organization for Europe and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway. Prof. Sanja Musić Milanović will participate in a panel discussion entitled “Pursuing Well-being, Equity and Healthy Societies through Sustainable Fiscal Policies”.
In President Milanović’s delegation there will also be the Head of the Office of the President of the Republic Orsat Miljenić and the Adviser to the President of the Republic for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić.
