President Milanović Meets with Chairman of the EU Military Committee General Robert Brieger

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today General Robert Brieger, Chairman of the EU Military Committee, who is on a visit to the Republic of Croatia and the Croatian Armed Forces.

General Brieger informed President Milanović about the main activities and challenges that the armed forces of member countries are facing as part of the implementation of the Strategic Compass, the European Union’s strategic vision on security and defense. The European Union’s capacity to rapidly deploy its military forces and the current situation related to the war in Ukraine were also discussed.

The Military Committee is the highest military body of the European Union responsible for planning and executing military missions and operations in accordance with the Common Security and Defense Policy. It participates in the development of military capabilities and provides military advice and recommendations to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union.

Prior to the meeting, President Milanović decorated Major General Johann Frank, who was a member of the delegation, with the Order of the Croatian Interlace for his exceptional contribution to the development of bilateral relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Austria.

General Brieger and General Frank were accompanied at the meeting with the President of the Republic by Executive Officer Tjasa Birsa and Aide-de-Camp Major Nicole Pfluger. The Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces Admiral Robert Hranj, Adviser to the President of the Republic for Defense Ivica Olujić, Head of the Military Office in the Office of the President Rear Admiral Predrag Stipanović and Deputy Military Representative of the Croatian Armed Forces in NATO and the EU Colonel Emilio Turina were alongside President Milanović.
