“The Prime Minister violates the Constitution and gives unbelievable explanations for obstructing the functioning of the state, in which he and a few other people in HDZ conspired, not all of them. There are people with whom it’s possible to cooperate, who have no blemishes. The people around him are frightening”, the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović commented on Prime Minister Plenković’s statement yesterday, in which he said he has no intention of cooperating with the President of the Republic.

“The Prime Minister and President of the HDZ said there is no room for cooperation after 24 February last year. First, that’s not true because there was some cooperation after that. Second, what does that date stand for in Croatian history?, President Milanović wondered.

“To me today’s date is more important. No matter how important it is only for a hundred people, but it’s a Croatian date. And 24 February is a date in a war that has been going on since 2014. I checked the Croatian Constitution, there’s no mention of it. Nobody mentions 24 February 2022, but mentions and conditions both me and the Government and all power holders – elected by the will of the people, as I am, or by party intrigues and crossword puzzles as the Defense minister – certain responsibility, for some a greater one, for others a lesser one. And when somebody tells me he is ending cooperation with the President of the Republic who was elected in democratically, that he won’t cooperate – that means violating the Constitution”, President Milanović explained.

For this reason the President says “he is surprised that this man is still Prime Minister”. “Somebody in the Parliament supports this and the one who does, should look at himself in the mirror and wonder if he is acting in accordance with the categorical imperative of the Croatian state. Therefore, Plenković said he will violate the Constitution. What can I do?” President Milanović asked, and concluded his statement.
