President Milanović Meets with Students Enrolled in Matica Hrvatska School of Communication Studies

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović visited today Matica Hrvatska where he met with its leadership and spoke with students who are enrolled in the School of Communication Studies of Croatia’s leading cultural institution.

The meeting with President Milanović, at which the institution’s role and activities were discussed, was attended by the President of Matica Hrvatska Miro Gavran, Vice Presidents Mario Jareb and Dubravka Oraić Tolić, and General Secretary Marijo Dominiković. The delegation informed President Milanović about Matica Hrvatska’s expansion in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina with the establishment of new branches.

President Milanović then spoke with journalism students of the Faculty of Political Science, Faculty of Croatian Studies and the Catholic University of Croatia, who attended the Matica Hrvatska School of Communication Studies, which was launched with the aim of providing students of journalism and communication with additional extracurricular media education. Twelve generations of students completed the programme of the Matica Hrvatska School of Communication Studies to date, with the last one held in late 2022 on the island of Korčula.

The students discussed various topics with President Milanović, including the following: students’ standing yesterday and today in Croatian society and the quality of education in Croatia and abroad, on which the President weighed in from his own experience; Croatia’s standing in the European Union and its expectations from EU membership; the work of politicians and reasons for becoming politically active in Croatia.

President Milanović was accompanied by the Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for Culture Zdravko Zima and Adviser to the President of the Republic for Education Jadranka Žarković.
